Amazon continues to expand its Amazon Fresh service across Germany after its launch several months ago. Following Berlin and Potsdam, it is now available in a large part of Hamburg.
Shipped from Berlin
Currently, Amazon Fresh is only available in several central suburbs of Hamburg, but Florian Baumgartner, who leads Amazon Fresh’ operations in Germany, maintains the service will soon spread to the entire city.
Amazon launched the German version of Amazon Fresh in early May, in Berlin and Potsdam. Back then, it contained 85,000 items, but the online supermarket has now grown that product range to more than 300,000 items. Consumer demand also prompted it to allow to buy more non-food items when placing an order on Fresh.
Even if people order in Hamburg, shipments will still come from the Berlin-based distribution center. Because of the distance, orders have to be placed before 22h if they are to arrive the next day. About 13,000 items can be delivered the very same day, if the order is placed prior to 10h30. Residents of Berlin have 1h30 more to get same-day delivery.
