Amazon has decided to shut down two Whole Foods stores in the United Kingdom, which are incidentally the only two stores it had outside of London.
Larger and not in London
The stores are located in Giffnock (Scotland) and Cheltenham (in the west of England). Both supermarkets were not similar to the other stores in the United Kingdom: they were outside of London and much larger than the average store.
“We remain committed to the UK market and will continue to look for ways to offer high-quality natural and organic foods to our customers”, Whole Foods said in a press release.
Whole Foods has been active in the United Kingdom since 2004, when it acquired seven Fresh & Wild stores. It later added two more stores, bringing the current total to nine.
