In one of the upcoming weeks, American online retailer Amazon will launch its own private labels for food, the very first time Amazon will launch its own labels in the food industry.
Lucrative market
Amazon has been developing its own brands for several years and the Wall Street Journal informs that several sources confirm Amazon is close to launching numerous private labels for food. Tea, coffee, baby food and nuts are all on the list, but its own diapers and laundry detergent are also getting the Amazon treatment. The very first products should launch prior to the end of the month.
The private label market is very lucrative, generating 118.4 billion dollars (104.5 billion euro) in the United States in 2015, which is up 2.2 billion dollars (1.9 billion euro) compared to the year before. Besides, Amazon is targeting markets with higher profit margins.
However, Amazon’s private labels will not be available to everyone from the start. Only Amazon Prime subscribers, of which there are more than 50 million right now, would get the opportunity to acquire them.
