Sum disclosed before 24 April
The Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund was created to bring together the donations of several public institutions and companies. Benetton had previously refused to donate money to a fund founded by companies that were involved in the textile factory disaster, claiming there was insufficient clarity about the fund’s goal.
However, the Italians have now decided to donate money to the Rana Plaza Donors Trust Fund, however the full amount will be revealed at a later date – prior to 24 April, the day of the disaster.
The fund has claimed it needs 35 million euro to compensate all victims and relatives fairly and that it currently falls 8 million euro short. It hopes Benetton will wipe away that amount in a single donation.
