Fnac-Darty’s CEO, Alexandre Bompard, is about to become Carrefour’s new CEO, succeeding Georges Plassat. The company is hoping to confirm his appointment at the General Assembly on 15 June.
Plenty of credentials for new CEO
Georges Plassat (68) will step down as Carrefour CEO in May 2018 and indicated he wanted a year to work alongside his successor, in order to help him settle in. That meant Carrefour needed to appoint a new CEO soon and after several months of struggling, it now seems that 44-year old Alexandre Bompard, currently Fnac-Darty CEO, will ascend the throne – although it still needs to be confirmed.
According to Le Journal du Dimanche, he would be publicly revealed at the group’s General Assembly on 15 June. Bompard has plenty of credentials speaking in his favour: Fnac’s share grew from 22 euro in June 2013 to 61 euro now.
However, the labour unions are not exactly happy with the rumoured new CEO: Fnac let hundreds of employees go, which increased the workload a lot. At the same time, he forced wage moderation onto his employees. Earlier this month, the unions already expressed their grievances surrounding Bompard’s possible appointment to Georges Plassat and the largest shareholders.
