With the introduction of a fully plant-based version of Boursin, food producer Bel aims to contribute to more sustainable eating habits. The product is now being launched across Europe and North America.
Same taste and texture
A key step in this strategy is the launch of Boursin Plant-Based, a vegan alternative made from ingredients like coconut oil and potato, and the signature mix of garlic and herbs. “Taste and texture are major challenges when developing plant-based alternatives”, Bel Benelux director Mohamed Zariouhi explains. Therefore, Bel made the decision to produce the plant-based version at the same factory and by the same team that makes the original product. “We have done everything possible to replicate the original as closely as possible. At launch, some people could not believe they were tasting a plant-based product.”
