Carrefour has announced it will acquire 224 convenience stores from the Asian retail group Dairy Farm.

All stores are located in Taiwan. It concerns 199 Wellcome branches with an average floor space of 420 sq metre and 25 Jasons branches, with a larger average floor space of 820 sq metre. Moreover, a distribution centre is also part of the deal.
According to Carrefour, the new stores will benefit from the retailer’s favourable purchasing conditions in the future. The French multinational commends Wellcome’s fresh food expertise and counts on the acquisition to benefit its own development of e-commerce in food.
Carrefour plans to convert the Wellcome stores into the Market-concept over the next 12 months. The Jasons branches will evolve into a premium retailer brand.
Dairy Farm is a leading pan-Asian retail group. At the end of 2019, the group’s various companies accounted for more than 10,000 retail outlets and employed around 230,000 people. The annual turnover amounted to approximately 22 billion euros.
