French supermarket chain Carrefour is set to launch its own 1-hour delivery service in several Parisian supermarkets, a counter for Amazon Prime Now‘s launch in the French capital.
By bike
Llast week, Amazon has launched Prime Now in Paris, a service that delivers orders within the hour to Prime subscribers. Even though Amazon has no actual plans to launch its online supermarket Amazon Fresh in Paris, Carrefour decided to launch a pre-emptive strike: the retailer will now trial a system to deliver groceries within the hour, according to French trade paper Linéaires.
Three Carrefour supermarkets in the Parisian inner-city will prepare orders and then get mail men to deliver these orders by bike within the hour.
The plans also sound very similar to Albert Heijn‘s recent pilot program, which revolved around electric bike deliveries in Amsterdam. Delivery speed is apparently the new battle ground in the online competitive war: it is a very costly service, but a part of the consumer is clearly willing to pay for it.
