Carrefour now also launching in Ghana

Carrefour continues its expansion in Africa: shortly after launching in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the retailer has now also found a franchise partner in Ghana. The first seven hypermarkets will be branded under the French chain’s name next year.

Priority region

The French retailer has reached an agreement with Brands for All, a local distributor that is already a franchise partner for retail chains such as Decathlon and Yves Rocher in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. In November, the company took over seven Shoprite hypermarkets. These stores will be converted to the Carrefour hypermarket concept by April 2026. By 2028, the retailer also expects to open five new outlets, Patrick Lasfargues, executive director of Carrefour Partenariat International, said in a press release.

Africa and the Middle East are important regions for Carrefour’s expansion, usually through local franchise partners. The retailer already has a presence in Algeria, Gabon, Morocco, Tunisia and – more recently also the DRC. As part of its “Plan Carrefour 2026,” the group plans to expand into ten new franchise countries.
