Albert Heijn has started looking for a new CEO, after Marit van Egmond decided to continue her career outside Ahold Delhaize from 30 April.
“The right time”
Van Egmond started worked at the retailer in 1997, and has been of Albert Heijn CEO for the last six years. Moreover, she also became CEO of two other Ahold Delhaize subsidiaries (Etos and Gall & Gall) in 2021. In a press release, she calls this “the right time” to leave, saying that Albert Heijn is ready for a next phase in its history, which would logically require a new leader.
Frans Muller, CEO of Ahold Delhaize, further praises Van Egmond as a leader who developed Albert Heijn into an innovative omnichannel retailer. Having joined Ahold as a management intern in 2017, she has since held various commercial, operational and management positions within the company. She joined the Albert Heijn management team a decade ago as Executive Vice President Commerce, and now leads three of Ahold’s chains. The process to find a successor has already been put in motion.
