Lidl has appointed CFO Marjolein Frederickx as its new CEO for Belgium and Luxembourg. She succeeds Matúš Gála, who is moving to the German discounter’s international headquarters.
Seven years as CFO
Frederickx started at Lidl Belgium & Luxembourg in 2009 and has held various positions within the company in the fifteen years since then. She has been Chief Financial Officer there since 2017, but on 1 September she will climb a step up to becoming CEO.
“Lidl has experienced further sustainable growth in the market over the past 2 years in Belgium & Luxembourg under the leadership of my predecessor, Matúš Gála”, Frederickx said in a press release. “I look forward to continuing the current strategy, which creates added value for our customers as well as for our employees and all key stakeholders.”
Gála’s departure to the head office is part of an international game of musical chairs, which began a fortnight ago with the reshuffling of the international executive team. The Slovak “will assume responsibility for several Lidl countries, including Lidl Belgium and Luxembourg, from September 2024”, the discounter concludes.
