Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions with thirty per cent by 2030. In addition, the company’s ambition is to become climate-neutral throughout its entire value chain by 2040.
Climate agreement
The CCEP’s objective is in line with the Paris Climate Change Agreement which is set to limit the temperature rise on our planet to 1.5°C. In practice, CCEP will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all five areas of its value chain: ingredients, packaging, production, transport and refrigeration. However, the main focus is on production, in which suppliers are setting their own scientific targets and will be using a hundred per cent renewable energy.
Around 250 million euros will be invested over the next three years to meet the target. The funds will, among other things, be used to make packaging more sustainable and to increase the use of recycled materials. With part of the funds, CCEP will also support projects that remove emissions from the atmosphere. Such compensation is only appropriate where it is impossible to further reduce one’s own emissions.

Climate change may be greater than all of us, but we must all take responsibility. That’s why CCEP is working towards a climate-neutral future,” said Joe Franses, Vice-President Sustainability.
