Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has announced a board reshuffle in order to accelerate the introduction of its new commercial strategy. The most important change is the creation of an ‘EVP Operations’, who watches over logistics, own and franchised stores and the technical departments.
“Anticipate evolutions in retail”
Dieter De Waegeneer, who became SVP for people, organisation and sustainability after a board reshuffle last January, will become Delhaize’s first EVP Operations. Illya Van den Borre also joins the board of directors as SVP human resources and corporate affairs, adding HR to his current focus.
To make room for the newcomers, Marc Debussche (EVP product, marketing, quality & store concept) has decided to retire on 31 December, while Kris Van Strydonck (SVP strategy, network development & e-commerce) will leave the company. CEO Xavier Piesvaux says he “wants to accelerate the execution of the new commercial strategy, anticipating evolutions in retail and placing customers and employees more than ever in the focal point of our organisation”.
As of 1 January 2019 Delhaize’s board of directors will consist of:
CEO: Xavier Piesvaux
EVP Operations: Dieter De Waegeneer
EVP Commerce (Product, Marketing, Quality & Store Concept): Françoise Burlet
SVP Legal Belgium & Central and South-Eastern Europe: Els Steen
CIO Belgium & Central and South-Eastern Europe: Thierry De Vleeschouwer
SVP Finance: Siger Spaans
SVP Human Resources & Corporate Affairs: Illya Van den Borre
