This morning, Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has announced it has sold its last batch of 21 supermarkets. This finishes the Herculean task of finding new owners for all its integrated supermarkets.
Focus on conversion process
Delhaize elaborated the announcement with the distinction that of the seventeen acquirers (as some bought two or even three stores in one go), eight are currently already operating one or more other Delhaize supermarkets, five are Delhaize employees and four are external candidates.
The retailer can now focus on the conversion process: of the 128 supermarkets, 45 have already officially reopened their doors with the new acquirers at the helm. The opening of this last batch of 21 supermarkets as stand-alone Delhaize supermarkets is planned during June to December 2024.
