Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has announced the offloading of eighteen additional supermarkets to independent operators. This brings the total to 107 out of 128 stores, or 84 % of the total.
18 new acquirers
Seven stores are acquired by people who already operate one or more other Delhaize stores, seven by former Delhaize employees and three by newcomers to the retailer. The eighteen supermarkets are scheduled to open as franchised stores between May and October 2024.
Following this announcement, the retailer has managed to franchise 107 of its 128 supermarkets, leaving just 21 acquisitions to be announced. 33 supermarkets have already opened their doors with the new owners at the helm.
