Finding franchisers for another seventeen supermarkets, Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has now found a solution for almost three in four stores. The shops will relaunch as independent supermarkets between March and July 2024.
39 to go
Today, Delhaize has released a fifth list of buyers for its stores. Eleven of the new buyers already operate one or more Delhaize stores, four are former employees and two are newcomers. This means that 89 of the 128 integrated supermarkets have now already found a franchiser. 29 have already opened their doors as franchised stores. 39 supermarkets are still left, but Delhaize hopes to be able to offload them before the end of 2024.
The new list contains three in Brussels (Dikke Beuk, Karreveld and Leopold III) and Flemish-Brabant (Beersel, Keerbergen and Kessel-Lo), as well as two in Antwerp and Limburg (Kontich & Reet and Houthalen & Waterschei respectively). The other provinces all have one store on this week’s list: East-Flanders (Ghent Ster), Hainaut (Lessines), Liege (Herstal), Luxembourg (Arlon), Namur (Bouge), Walloon-Brabant (Tubize) and West-Flanders (Bruges Sint-Michiels).
