Two Belgian food chains, healthy restaurant chain Foodmaker and supermarket chain Delhaize, have opened their first common restaurant in Brussels, the first in a series of ten planned openings in the next two years.
Structural collaboration
Delhaize’s first Foodmaker restaurant is located near train station Brussels-North and is the first concrete step in the structural collaboration that the two chains announced in June, as the supermarket chain has become Foodmaker’s exclusive franchise rights holder, responsible for managing and expanding its restaurant network.
Foodmaker will continue to make its own meals and design its restaurants’ distinct look and feel. Interiors will be redesigned to become an Urban Jungle, combining wooden elements, big windows and exotic plants.
Both partners have planned to open at least ten restaurants together in the next two years, and they will also try to venture into the office and delivery market. CEO Lieven Vanlommel thinks there is room for sixty locations in the longer term.
