Albert Heijn expands its delivery options in cooperation with Deliveroo and Thuisbezorgd.nl: customers get their groceries delivered within half an hour. The retailer is focusing on a fresh and healthy assortment.
First in Amsterdam
Delivery platforms Deliveroo and Thuisbezorgd.nl (the Dutch branch of Just Eat Takeaway) will deliver groceries, that are prepared in the Albert Heijn stores, to customers within half an hour. The service starts next week from two stores in Amsterdam and will be expanded further if successful. Albert Heijn saw its e-commerce turnover grow by 35 % last year and is therefore continuously scaling up delivery options and capacity.
Customers will be able to choose from a range of 1,200 items, including fresh food parcels, puree soups, organic products and products with a Nutri-Score A or B. The retailer wants to make it easier to choose a healthy meal at the last minute.
Collaborations between delivery platforms and supermarket chains are a trend throughout Europe. Recently, a partnership between Jumbo and Gorillas was launched in Antwerp, while Carrefour has been working with Deliveroo and Uber Eats for some time.
