Two and a half years after its launch, Dr. Oetker has withdrawn its infamous chocolate pizza from the market. The ‘Pizza Dolce al Cioccolato’ from the Ristorante sub-label made quite a few eyebrows raise at the time, and only a few reach into their pockets.
Disappointing demand
Dr. Oetker is withdrawing their chocolate pizza because of low demand: in fact, the frozen pizza with a chocolate topping has not been supplied to the market since the summer, a spokesman said last Friday. “There are always new products, but when there is insufficient demand, an old product has to be replaced“, they said to Neue Westfälische.
The Dolce al Cioccolato Pizza attracted a great deal of attention at its launch in 2017: the sweet frozen pizza was a particularly hot topic of conversation on social media. Twelve months later, the recipe was changed and a smaller variant was launched under the name ‘Piccola Cioccolatino’.
