Brands sold off to LVMH
DKI will not look for a new lead designer at the moment: there are rumours the Donna Karan Collection and DKNY will merge into a single brand. Donna Karan founded her company alongside her husband in 1984, headed to the stock exchange in 1986 and she resigned as CEO in 1997. Subsequently, the company and all of its brands were sold to luxury concern LVMH in 2000.
Karan says she will now focus on her Urban Zen foundation, helping develop new products and 10 % of all proceeds will go to charity.
