French retailer Casino has opened a second Belgian Franprix store in Brussels. It is a small convenience store with a limited ‘on the go’ product range.
In metro station
Franprix opened the store last Friday without any prior announcement, Belgian newspaper De Tijd discovered. It is located in the Porte de Namur metro stop and is only 80 sqm in size. The store seems to be targeting commuters in a hurry, with a focus on food, snacks and drinks to take away. The chain’s first Belgian store, which opened last February, is quite different: this 300 sqm city centre store offers some 5000 references in food and has only a limited offer for immediate consumption.
Casino wants to keep opening stores of Franprix in Belgium, but does not say how many, where or when. If the Brussels test proves to be a success, other European capitals could also come into view, the retailer confirmed. In France, the fast-growing chain has more than 900 stores.
