80 % women in the industry
To reach that goal, GAP provides 80 hours of classes in 9 different subjects, like communication skills, finances, time management and problem solving. These classes should help women to move ahead in their career and in life. P.A.C.E stands for Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement.
Gap hopes it can help 1 million women in the textile industry by 2020. Currently, over 80 % of employees in that industry are women, but they seldom advance career-wise. Women will rarely get supervisory positions and will barely get any training.
P.A.C.E. has already reached 30,000 women in 10 countries. “The people who are in the factories and make our products are critically important and most of them are women,” Gap Inc CEO Art Peck told Fortune. “We believe this is good for the business and we also believe it is the right thing to do.”
