Getir has officially confirmed: the quick commerce company is pulling out of the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and the US. The grocery service will now concentrate on its home market of Turkey.
Best positioned
It had been in the air for a while, but now it has also been confirmed: Getir is folding back, leaving all remaining European markets. The ultra fast delivery company is also pulling out of the United States. However, FreshDirect, the New York-based online supermarket that Getir only acquired from Ahold Delhaize late last year, will remain.
The Turkish company was urgently looking for funding, and has found it with Arab investment house Mubadala and Swiss G Squared, but will focus on its Turkish home market from now on. The company says that is where it is best positioned to further grow its delivery service. The markets that Getir is leaving accounted for 7% of sales but were heavily loss-making.
In the Netherlands, this leaves Flink as the only quick commerce company, although “customers can continue to place orders in the coming weeks”, a Getir spokesperson told Telegraaf. Employees of the delivery service were informed today. For now, the service is still available in eight Dutch cities.
