Belgian Greenyard has forged a strategic alliance with Gelagri Bretagne for the local processing of frozen vegetables in Brittany. It is a logical step for the Belgian fruit and vegetable processor to continue its European expansion with a company that is quite complementary to its own activities.
Integrating production and distribution
Gelagri Bretagne is a subsidiary of the French agri-food cooperative Eureden, and Greenyard hopes for an extensive integration of the production and commercial activities concerning frozen vegetables. Gelagri has an extensive network of growers, complementing Greenyard’s network of relations with the largest retailers in the world.
Brittany is known for its fertile soil and agricultural know-how, and is a crucial region for the French and even European vegetable sector. By joining forces, both parties want to strengthen the production and processing of frozen vegetables locally and at the same time further expand their sales channels. The existing production sites of both Greenyard and Gelagri will remain active.
Greenyard would acquire a majority stake in the new entity, subject to approval by the relevant authorities. The final agreement is expected by the end of this year. The exact financial conditions have not been disclosed.
