Thanks to more collaborations with food retailers, meal delivery service Deliveroo was able to publish a half-year profit for the first time.
Not just supermarkets
More and more consumers are having Deliveroo deliver not only meals, but also groceries to their homes. The British delivery service saw the number of orders rise by 2 % to 147.4 million in the first six months of this year. Gross transaction value rose 6 % to 3.7 billion pounds (4.3 billion euros), while sales grew 2 % to 1.02 billion pounds (1.2 billion euros). A milestone is the 1.3 million pounds (1.5 million euros) in profit: a year earlier there was a loss of 82.9 million pounds (96 million euros).
The good results are largely due to increasing collaborations with supermarket chains and with other retailers. The grocery category already accounts for 14 % of the total transaction value. The Deliveroo Shopping service is entering into more collaborations with retailers: not only with supermarkets, but also with DIY chain B&Q and beauty retailer The Perfume Shop. In Belgium, Deliveroo also recently started delivering groceries from a Carrefour Hypermarket in Brussels.
