Store in every major European city
The chain’s store in Antwerp will be 305 sqm, taking up the store the Italian fashion group Sportstaff occupied earlier. The chain, known for its exclusive series from brands like Adidas and Nike, will also open an even bigger store in Liege, at 460 sqm.
The Belgian move fits CEO Peter Cowgill’s strategy to have a store in every major European city as the chain’s presence is currently limited to the Netherlands, France, Germany and Spain. Nevertheless, it also hopes to expand in those countries, with store openings planned for October in Amsterdam and Cologne.
JD Sports currently has 660 sports stores and 184 outdoor shops, bringing in a record 1.5 billion pound (2 billion euro) turnover in the past fiscal year.
