Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo has resolved its pricing disputes with Red Bull and Pringles, enabling these products to return to store shelves. However, the Netherlands’ second largest supermarket chain remains in conflict with Douwe Egberts.
Pricing positioning
A few weeks ago, Red Bull had ceased its deliveries to Jumbo due to disagreements over purchasing prices, resulting in empty shelves. Some franchisees circumvented this boycott by sourcing the cans elsewhere. Since last week, their products has reappeared on those shelves, Distrifood noted, and a spokesperson has confirmed that the conflict has been resolved. Pringles are also returning to the supermarket chain after being unavailable for months due to a dispute with manufacturer Kellanova.
Jumbo has been pressuring suppliers to improve price positioning, sometimes leading to boycotts involving brand manufacturers such as Henkel, Perfetti van Melle, PepsiCo, and Grand’Italia. Discussions with Douwe Egberts are ongoing, resulting in some products still missing from the shelves. Due to significant price increases for coffee, parent company JDE Peet’s is also in conflict elsewhere, including with Albert Heijn, Aldi, Colruyt, and Edeka.
