Intermarché has acquired the last three Belgian shops of discount chain Leader Price. The three stores are reopening next month, allowing Intermarché to continue its Belgian advance.
Continued advance
The Leader Price discount chain will soon disappear from the Belgian scene altogether. After a long decline, the chain had been systematically scaled down to just three Belgian branches.
On 28 May, the three shops (in Fleurus, Herstal and Tihange) will reopen under the Intermarché banner, La Dernière Heure reports. The French chain continues to grow in Belgium, especially through the transformation of the Mestdagh supermarkets, and will reach 166 Belgian shops as this acquisition is completed.
