Starting today, Belgian customers can shop online at Lidl. The discounter has experimented with online sales in Germany for several years now and has now stepped abroad for the first time, with Belgium as the first other country to welcome its web shop.
Processed in Germany
At first, Lidl will offer a product range consisting of 350 non-food articles, including garden appliances, clothing and cooking material. These are also available in stores, but usually only for a few days. “Some of these articles will be available for a longer period of time on our website. A shirt can be available for an entire year, while a ski jacket could be available during the winter”, Lidl Belgium eCommerce manager Marjolein Frederickx told Belgian business newspaper De Tijd. Larger products that cannot be put on display in the store, will also be available online.
Online orders will be delivered at home after two working days for a 2.99 euro shipping fee. The Lidl distribution centers in German cities Kremmen and Speyer will handle all online orders “because that is more efficient as Lidl Germany has seven years of eCommerce experience. At a later time, we can decide how to tackle our web shop’s logistics differently.”
