After a decade in managerial roles at Tesco, Amit Chitnis is moving to online challenger Ocado to become Chief Commercial Officer.
Second try
Later this year, Chitnis will take over the baton from CCO ad interim (and procurement director) Rose Price. After more than twelve years at the online supermarket, Price is retiring… for the second time, as she had already retired in 2021. However, her replacement barely lasted six months, so Price came back temporarily while a new CCO was being sought.
That permanent successor has now hopefully been found with Chitnis, who began his career at Indian multinational Tata Group. He held several positions at Tesco, including head of group strategy, director of trading and most recently director of groceries.
Ocado is currently in some rough patches, with falling demand and mounting losses. Late last year, the company laid off forty employees at its headquarters as part of a major reorganisation of its commercial and buying teams.
