Dutch food wholesaler Sligro managed to raise its profits sharply, with operating profit tripling to 43 million euros and net profit quadrupling to 24 million euros. However, behind these headline figures, challenges persist — particularly in Belgium.
Dutch performance offsets Belgian woes
The group had already disclosed its sales figures in January, reporting a turnover increase of 1.1 % to 2.89 billion euros. This was despite a major turnover drop in Belgium (by 7.8 % to 397 million euros). Net losses narrowed slightly in the country (from 25 to 23 million euros), but the Belgian branch remains a significant drag on the group’s overall performance.
