Spadel, the owner of several brands, including Spa and Bru, is starting a new investment fund and is immediately taking a minority stake in Contaynor, a Belgian start-up focusing on the home delivery of beverages in an environmentally friendly manner.
Sustainable and innovative
The investment fund, “The Source, Ventures by Spadel”, kicks off with a capital of ten million euros. The intention is to invest in innovative and sustainable start-ups in the beverage industry, but also initiatives concerning packaging, recycling or digitisation. The Source’s first investment is a minority stake in beverage delivery company Contaynor.
This start-up delivers containers of water, beer and soft drinks to consumers’ homes using electrically powered delivery vehicles. Currently, their scope is restricted to the area around Leuven and Brussels, but the company wants to serve other major cities as soon as possible, starting with Antwerp. A new distribution centre is also to be built there.
“Other investments will certainly follow in the coming months,” says Franck Lecomte, head of innovation and sustainable growth at Spadel. “Innovation has always been central to Spadel’s strategy. With The Source, we want to go one step further and connect with companies that can influence our business model.”
