Supermarket groups Tesco and Carrefour will end their buying alliance after three years. According to the British retailer, Brexit did not influence the decision to end the partnership.
Products and services
The purchasing agreement between the two retail giants dates back to 2018. At that time, both parties agreed to purchase branded and private label products together. Certain services, such as marketing and data collection, were also included in the agreement. However, under pressure from the French competition authority, the alliance was later scaled down, excluding some product categories from the agreement.
The fact that Tesco and Carrefour are now going their separate ways suggests that the alliance did not yield enough benefits to justify extending it. A specific reason for the separation remains ungiven. In The Guardian, a Tesco spokesperson denied that the UK’s departure from the EU influenced the decision to scrap the partnership.
