Counterfeit at German retailer
At first, Ugg Australia’s parent
company Deckers Outdoor Corporation had filed a lawsuit against a
German retailer for selling counterfeit Uggs. Those shoes were then traced back
to the Dutch company, which went to court itself, trying
to invalidate Deckers’ Registered Community Design in the European Union. However,
the Hague District Court ruled in Ugg Australia’s favour.
“Intermedium’s infringement and subsequent attempt to invalidate our
long-standing Registered Community Design in the European Union illustrates the
breadth and depth of the issues we face as an industry, when large and established companies attempt to skirt the law“,
CEO Angel Martinez stated to Fashion United.
Intermedium Shoes is a company creating shoes for international brands and
retailers in China, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Pakistan and more than ten other
Asian countries. According to its own numbers, it produces some 20 million pairs of shoes per year.
