12 stores survive
Right now, 360 people work for Van Dalen, but only 125 people will remain after the relaunch. Yari Holding has stated it will keep some 12 stores open, with a few of those definitely in Belgium. The buyer also wants to increase the chain’s online profile, according to guardian Marc van Zanten.
Van Zanten also said Van Dalen had too many stores in a shrinking shoe market, while the company couldn’t deal with online shoe sales. Once the company went bankrupt, it quickly became clear there was an interested buyer to enable a relaunch. At that time, it was said a lot of stores would be able to survive the cut, but it now seems that only a third will survive the relaunch.
All shoe stores will stay open for the time being. That way, the stores can do a promotional sale to get rid of any remaining stock.
