American department store chain Walmart placed a tower in one of its stores, capable of distributing online orders automatically. Customers need only share their order number to get their own package.
Better than pick-up lockers
On top of that, the tower can also process a lot of packages, but a part of the ceiling had to be removed in order to get the tower inside the store. The big advantage compared to the regular pick-up lockers, a previous trial at Walmart, is that the tower can adjust the size of its compartments allowing for the storage of both major and minor orders.
“We know speed and convenience are important to our customers, and we’re always looking for new ways to bring it to them,” Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg said. “We are excited to be one of the first companies to test this new technology and are looking forward to hearing feedback from our customers and associates.”
