Non-food discounter Action is managing to accelerate its growth even further: in the first quarter of 2023, sales in existing stores went up more than 24%, while the retailer also opened 34 new stores.
Ambitions to expand
Action’s sales rose 36% in the last quarter to around 2.5 billion euros, according to financial results published by main shareholder 3i on Thursday. Comparable sales grew by 24.3%. In addition, the discounter also opened 34 new stores. With this, Action continues the strong performance of last year, when sales grew by 30%.
The first stores in Slovakia, the eleventh country for the retailer, opened on 2 March. Action now has 2,297 stores in 11 countries and sees considerable scope for expansion in both existing and new areas. The company therefore plans to open two new distribution centres this year. These should enable the retailer to supply as many as 3,100 stores in total.
