Household appliances
Construction for the new distribution center will commence in May and it will serve as a distribution center for household appliances and operate along the logistical demands of an ever more flexible market, including same-day delivery.
“Our current locations in Aartselaar (Belgium) and Ridderkerk (the Netherlands) will remain fully operational, but the new distribution center – which should become active at the end of 2016, will relieve pressure off of the current centers and enable further growth”, Alternate’s Damir Cenanovic said.
We chose to build something in Tholen’s Welgelegen industrial area as it is ideally located alongside the new A4 highway, exactly in between both current locations”, the marketing director said. “Several dozen employees will work at the new location and we will keep attracting new employees as our distribution center grows as we expect it to. To make sure it can keep up with the expected demand, Alternate already took an option on the 5 hectare ground next to its soon-to-be-built distribution center.
10,000 packages per day
Alternate, founded in Germany in 1992, already employs 1,200 people in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. It started out as a computer, component and multimedia suppliers and has become one of the largest online suppliers in that regard, but it has also expanded its product ranges with similar product categories like household appliances and tools.
Its logistic centers in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands send products to all European countries, both as a fulfillment partner for other sellers and as a company that sells to customers directly. Alternate says it ships 10,000 packages per day.
