Amazon has plans to considerably increase its presence in physical retail, with dozens more pop-up stores in shopping centres all across the United States over the next 12 months alone.
More visibility
The American etailer will mainly show its own hardware in the pop-up stores, like the Kindle, Fire tablets and the Echo speakers. To complement the product range, the stores will also feature a range of accessories.
Amazon currently has 21 pop-up stores in the United States, all ranging from 28 to 45 sqm. It only had 6 pop-up stores late last year, but it aims to get at least 30 by the end of this year, and up to 100 by the end of next year.
The company’s main aim is not to draw in a lot of consumers and sell plenty of devices, but to get them acquainted with the web shop. Many of Amazon’s own devices are designed to facilitate online shopping. Add to that the fact that many major chains, like Target and Walmart, no longer sell Amazon’s products and you can see why the company feels the need to open its own range of stores.
