Amazon has let go several employees with immediate effect, because of their unauthorised sharing of customer data with a third party.
“No sensitive information”
According to the American e-commerce giant, this included personal data such as email addresses and telephone numbers, but no other sensitive information. Amazon did not wish to give any details about the scope of the case, how many staff members were involved or why they shared the information. The company did not wish to disclose more than that those responsible for this incident were terminated, and that it is supporting law enforcement in their prosecution.
It is already the second time in a week that Amazon has been forced to lay off a number of employees. On Wednesday, the company fired four employees because they had misused their access to the video footage of Ring smart doorbells. The e-commerce company subsequently restricted that access to a smaller group of staff.
