E-commerce giant Amazon is holding its Prime Day shopping event on 21 and 22 June this year. The online platform wants to encourage customers to make their purchases from small businesses.
Two million deals
It was already known that the shopping event will take place a bit earlier than usual this year: that has everything to do with the busy sports summer that is approaching. Now Amazon has announced the exact dates: Prime Day starts on 21 June at 00:00 and lasts until 23:59 on 22 June. Prime members worldwide can take advantage of more than two million deals in all categories. Last year, Prime Day generated sales of 3.5 billion euros. This year, Amazon is encouraging its customers to buy from the many small businesses active on the platform. The company has set aside a global budget of 100 million dollars (82 million euros) for this purpose.
In practice, Amazon Prime Day lasts a little longer than two days. In the run-up to the two-day event, from 7 to 20 June, customers can already find many deals from participating companies in the webshop. The offers apply exclusively to Prime members. Worldwide, Prime already has more than 200 million paying subscribers.
