A shopping centre near Antwerp, Belgium has opened the world’s largest man cave in a shopping centre. Opening strategically at the first day of the winter sales period, Wijnegem shopping centre wants women to be able to shop for longer while ‘parking’ their husband in an adults’ Småland.
240 sqm of men’s Walhalla
With three pool tables, three game consoles, two table football tables, a dartboard, two giant televisions, a bar with beer and cocktails and comfortable lounge chairs, The Hub is a 240 sqm man cave that is – according to the shopping centre itself – the largest of its kind in a shopping centre. Unlike most of its counterparts, The Hub is not a pop-up: “Of course the start of the winter sales is a good moment to launch The Hub, but this concept will remain in place for a whole year. It will add to the experience, which is something that shopping centres have to invest in nowadays”, manager Katrien Geysen says.
‘The Hub’ came to Wijnegem near Antwerp as a part of a cooperation of brands like Coca-Cola, Duvel, Philips and telecom operator Proximus. The ‘man cave’ will allow women to drop off their partners every day: a good idea, knowing that more than half of the visitors spend at least three hours in the shopping centre and that most men are not eager to spend that long in the company of their shopping partner…
