Experience at Ahold and Unilever
From 1987 until 1999, Meijer rose through the marketing and sales ranks at Unilever, in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. He then joined Albert Heijn as its unit manager buying & merchandising and from 2002 until 2013, he held several international managerial positions at Ahold, both in the Netherlands and in the United States.
“With a strong retailer like Casper at the helm, we have full faith that Blokker Holding and our local and foreign chains can successfully continue their transformation. He has the experience, knowledge and personality to give our changes in company culture and our drive for innovation another boost”, Piet Klaver said in a press release. He is the chairman of Blokker Holding’s Supervisory Board.
The company has been in a rut lately: for the first time ever, the retail group operated at a loss in the past year and plenty of managerial changes have taken place over the past few months. The group mainly struggles with the new omnichannel environment which currently dominates the retail industry.
