From books to blood bags?
Australian company Flirtey came up with the idea and hopes it
has a grand future: the company believes that food and even blood bag transports from blood banks to
hospitals would be possible. A drone would be able to carry 2 kilograms of load.
Other companies have already tried to perform drone-powered deliveries, but
none have launched a commercial version. Domino’s
Pizza has tried out the DomiCopter in Great Britain, and Tacocopter.com
aims to deliver taco’s in San Francisco using drones.
2 euro per delivery
Flirtey’s drones will fly autonomously, using technology to avoid birds and
buildings, and high enough as not to disturb people on the street.
When they are delivering something, they will remain 3 meters high while the customer has to pull a rope, to trigger a
‘drop’. People would have to pay 2.99 Australian dollars (some 2 euro) for
the service.
Flirtey still has to get approval
from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. If that organization does not approve
the idea, then Flirtey aims to create fixed drop-off points.
