The Flemish book market has dropped 1.9 % in 2014, to 195.8 million euro. In total, some 15 million books were sold according to boek.be. Fiction and literary non-fiction slumped (- 7.3 %), while comics also fell (- 4.4 %). Luckily, children’s book did grow, up 5.1 %.
Ebook sales were up 140 %, but only contributed 2.9 % to the total turnover, which is still lower than the Netherlands (5 %). According to boek.be, Flanders is about “a year behind” on their Dutch counterpart when it comes to eBook acceptance.
