Not everyone approves
There is a lot of criticism surrounding Uplace Machelen, because the Council of State felt there were – amongst others – severe mobility issues. The Flemish regional government has now lowered the allowed amount of retail space by a third and has implemented several public transportation demands to get everything approved.
Some entrepreneurial organizations are not happy with the decision as they feel it will destroy inner-city retail, while mobility organization Touring expects the shopping center to create more traffic jams on the already saturated Brussels ringroad.
