The Geek Corners that Belgian hypermarket chain Cora introduced two years ago in its Belgian stores, are becoming increasingly popular. This year alone, they grew by 60 %. Unsurprisingly, the concept is being expanded to France.
French expansion
Cora originally thought the specialised corners with their merchandise of famous films, games and series would appeal to teenagers, but ever more children and women are finding their way to the Cora stores for their geeky stuff. An expansion of the product range with merchandise from Disney Classics, as well as decorative items like mugs, key-chains and even face masks was aimed to strengthen that evolution.
These efforts paid off in style: the department grew by 60 % this year. The chain, part of Belgium’s Louis Delhaize Group, has therefore decided to bring the corners to all of its French hypermarkets.
