Hema wants another 150 Spanish stores

Hema wants to open another 150 stores in Spain. Following stores in Madrid and Barcelona, the Dutch chain is now targeting cities like Valencia, Bilbao, Malaga and Seville. French and German expansion are also on the to-do-list.

Stations and other locations

Over the next five years, the retailer will invest 75 million euro into its Spanish expansion, international director Richard Flint said according to Spanish press agency EFE. Train stations, airports and other commuter-heavy areas are the target area for new HEMA stores. The chain recently opened its third store in Barcelona and already has five stores in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Hema’s international turnover should have doubled in the next two years. The retail chain, with more than 700 stores in Europe, also wants to open more stores in France, where it has about forty stores already. An increased German expansion should start next year, after having opened its first German store in Cologne early this year.

Lion Capital’s formula, currently for sale, wants to increase its scale thanks to more European growth.
