Modular build
Ikea and Marriott’s Moxy hotels are trendy budget hotels, sized from 5,000 to 10,000 sqm, each with 150 to 200 rooms. Prices vary from 65 to 95 euro and Ikea wants to open 150 of these hotels over the next 10 years.
They are pre-built in Italy and shipped piece by piece. An entire hotel can be built within a year. Furniture is designed by Ikea, but will not be available in its stores.
Marriott and Ikea want to open 3 hotels in Belgium, but it has not found an ideal location yet. “We want a Moxy hotel near Brussels Airport and the Antwerp city center. We are also looking around in Ghent”, Inter Hospitality CEO Peter Andrews said. That particular company is an Ikea subsidiary which builds the hotels. “But is incredibly hard to find a good location. There were talks, but they did not lead to anything. Nevertheless, we hope to come to Belgium soon.”
