Docks Bruxsel has found the right track: after a strong 2022, the shopping centre in Brussels was able to realise another double-digit increase in turnover in 2023 – partly thanks to Lego.
On track
After some difficult years, the Brussels shopping centre is on the right track: its turnover grew 11 % to 22 million euros and for the second year in a row, there was a positive operating result. However, there still was a net loss of 5 million euros as a result of higher financing costs due to interest rate increases.
The shopping centre had a difficult start after its opening in 2016, and then suffered badly from the pandemic. However, a repositioning of the shops on offer turned the tide: the opening of accessible and popular retail chains like Action and H&M and the expansion of the hospitality offer paid off. A major turning point was the opening of Belgium’s first Lego Discovery Centre two years ago, which now also attracts foreign visitors to Docks Bruxsel.
